Dakos Salad

In Crete, hard rusk bread is referred to as Dakos. Dakos salad is a simple traditional dish, considered the perfect meze for tsikoudia in Crete. In the past, during winter when tomatoes weren't available, housewives would use homemade tomato paste instead.

Ingredients:

1 Dakos (rusk bread)

1 grated tomato

Olive oil

Olives

Dried oregano

Xinomizithra cheese

Procedure:

Dampen the dakos slightly, then place it on a plate. Layer the grated tomato on top of the dakos, followed by a drizzle of olive oil, crumbled xinomizithra cheese, olives, and a sprinkle of oregano. Enjoy!
