The Traditional 'Bread of the Year'
A Recipe Evoking Childhood Christmas Memories!
This ‘bread of the year' is a creation that goes beyond mere ingredients; it revives memories of love and care.
In the old days in Crete, before Christmas, the housewife, alongside the bread she kneaded, would prepare a sweet bread resembling a New Year's pie.
With care and patience, she crafted edible decorations and adorned the surface of the round bread with them.
On New Year's Day, the head of the household would take the bread, mark it with a cross, hand-cut it, and distribute it to the entire family.
