Myrtia: The Birthplace of Kazantzakis
Myrtia is the village where Nikos Kazantzakis was born, and its charm will sweep you off your feet. The narrow streets are adorned with colorful flower pots, and the air is filled with the spirit of culture. The village is not only famous for its wine but also for its artistic flair.

But the highlight here is the Nikos Kazantzakis Museum, which has been thoughtfully modernized to offer a deep dive into the world of the Cretan author.

You’ll learn about his life, the people who influenced his thinking, and those who stood by him during his career.

After exploring Myrtia, head to Heraklion. On the city walls, at a spot called Martinengo, you’ll find Kazantzakis’ grave. The story of his funeral is fascinating and worth looking into, adding another layer of depth to his legacy.
