The exhibition by Asteris Gekas “DIONYSIAN LITURGY — 100 Years of MIKIS THEODORAKIS” featuring paintings and constructions, is hosted on the ground floor of the Vitsentzos Kornaros Cultural Centre (97 V. Kornarou Street, Sitia, 72300) from April 11 to April 28, 2025.

*"My visual journey DIONYSIAN LITURGY — 100 Years of MIKIS THEODORAKIS coincides with the printing of the Vitsentzos Kornaros Cultural Centre’s calendar, dedicated to Mikis.

Thus, after the previous exhibition stops (Thessaloniki – Paris – Athens), Sitia was added to this itinerary, because Mikis comes from Crete, and it is in Crete where his monument stands.

From Crete comes the poet Manolis Anagnostakis, from Crete also Nikos Kazantzakis of Zorba. Sitia is, for me, a sacred place, and so it was decided that this new series would premiere at the Vitsentzos Kornaros Cultural Centre, which honoured Mikis with its beautifully designed calendar.

Songs by Mikis become poetic icons of tribute to the poets he set to music. Scenes from a past emotional world useful for the aesthetics of the future.

The music and poems of the great poets he composed for are, today more than ever, essential to our times.

The musical journey of Mikis is a DIONYSIAN liturgy — a hymn to the passions and hopes of Hellenism, with universal messages, always placing the human being at its centre.

This exhibition leads us towards an optimistic song for the hopeful future of our small and beautiful homeland,"* says the artist.
