A Stroll Through Venetian Heraklion

Heraklion’s rich history is deeply intertwined with the Venetians, and the city’s architecture is a living testament to this connection.

Begin your journey at the Venetian Harbour and make your way towards the Arsenals (Neoria) before continuing along the pedestrianized 25th of August Street.

Your steps will eventually lead you to the impressive Loggia, Heraklion’s city hall, an imposing structure that stands proudly as one of the city’s architectural gems.

And right across from it, you’ll find Barba Thymios, ready to offer you gourmet street food that redefines the genre!

The Venetian Harbour, with its iconic Koules Fortress, is one of Heraklion’s most famous landmarks.

As you take in the surroundings, you’ll witness a scene that feels like a glimpse into another era: local fishermen preparing their boats and casting their nets.

Directly across, you’ll be amazed by the sight of the Venetian Arsenals.

Each of these grand arches once housed a galley, either being stored, repaired, or even constructed from scratch.

At the start of your stroll, you’ll find 25th of August Street, once known as the “Street of Deception” for how it charmed visitors to the city.

As you walk uphill, you’ll reach the Loggia, which now serves as the town hall but still retains all its Venetian elegance.

If you're in need of a little energy boost before exploring Heraklion’s bustling market, treat yourself to something special!

Barba Thymios awaits you with his gourmet offerings.

Don’t miss the mix grill of chicken, sausage, and juicy burgers—street food, but elevated to a whole new level!
