The Lassithi Plateau is perfect for off-road exploration, offering an adventure in the heart of Crete.

Buckle up and set out for a memorable journey through this enchanting region.

First Stop: Lagou

As soon as you step foot in Lagou, you’ll find the villages of the Lassithi Plateau have preserved their genuine beauty. These communities stay true to their traditions, far removed from the lures of mass tourism.

Take a stroll to Seli Ambelou, a complex of windmills that has become an iconic symbol of the region.

Reflect on how essential these mills once were to the people of Lassithi!

Afterward, stop at the taverna for a hearty meal—don't miss the wood-fired roast pork and the homemade pichti, a traditional preserved meat dish.

A little further down the road, you’ll reach Kato Metochi, another picturesque village.

Like much of the region, you’ll notice that most residents here are elderly; sadly, the younger generation has grown rare.

Here stands the Vidiani Monastery, dedicated to the Life-Giving Spring, symbolized by the fountain at the monastery’s entrance.

It's a peaceful spot with deep roots in local faith and history.
