The Hellenic Photographic Society of Heraklion (E.F.E.H.) is hosting a photo exhibition by its member, Giorgos Barbounis, titled "Shadows of the Past: The Story of Auschwitz Through Light and Silence", at the Art Hall, on the mezzanine floor of 20 Doukos Beaufort Street.
The exhibition, created by amateur photographer Giorgos Barbounis, opens its doors to the public, inviting visitors to explore the memory and history of Auschwitz, one of the most historically and emotionally charged places in the world.

The exhibition features photographs taken by Barbounis during his visit to Auschwitz I and II. Through his lens, visitors will experience the silent power of a place that, while steeped in tragic memories, also reflects the resilience of the human spirit.
The title, "Shadows of the Past: The Story of Auschwitz Through Light and Silence", captures the tension that defines this place, where light and shadow collide with the weight of history and its silent testimony.

Opening night is on April 2nd at 19:30, featuring a presentation of documentary-style photographs by Amalia Niniraki, a mathematician and author, and a literary tour by Lefteris Giannakoudakis, writer and director — an invitation to listen to “the sound of people when they break.”
The exhibition will be open to the public at the E.F.E.H. Art Space in Heraklion, with the following opening hours:
• Monday: 18:00 - 19:00
• Wednesday: 18:00 - 20:00
This is an invitation to reflect on the importance of memory and the need to keep the lessons of history alive, in honor of the victims and survivors of Auschwitz.
