Nature Activities / Other nature activities

ABOUT
In the picturesque village of Vamos in Apokoronas, Chania, you’ll have the chance to meet local producers who craft the four key ingredients of Cretan cuisine, carrying on an ancient tradition.
Herbs
Natalia gathers local herbs daily to prepare aromatic teas. The sea salt she uses is sourced from natural salt flats nearby and smoked with lemons from her garden. (In addition, her orange-lemon marmalade is outstanding, and she also makes a unique carob syrup—the purest, most organic sweetener in the world!)
Olive Oil
At the Melissakis family olive mill, you’ll meet the fifth generation of olive oil producers. This is one of the most advanced mills in the area, ensuring the exceptional quality of Cretan olives.
Cheese
George proudly continues a long tradition of cheese-making at his dairy. Partnering with shepherds from the White Mountains, he produces what’s known as some of the world’s finest cheese.
Wine
In Vlassis’ winery, with its atmospheric cellar, you’ll find some of the finest local wine varieties.
Last but not least, enjoy a delicious homemade meal featuring traditional Cretan recipes.
The tour starts at the Vamos Tourist Office daily at 10 a.m., by reservation (one day in advance), except Sundays.

The tip of Local!
In the village of Gavalohori (near Vamos), under towering plane trees, lie ancient stone wells dating back to the 11th century. From the village square, follow the signs uphill, and near the top, turn left. Continue until you see the wells on your right.
