"Kroussaniotissa" Agricultural Cooperative
ABOUT
In the rugged beauty of the mountainous village of Krousonas, filled with the unmistakable essence of Crete, you’ll have the chance to sample authentic local products. A visit to the "Kroussaniotissa" Agricultural Cooperative will reveal why the village women are known for their skillful hands. If you're lucky, you might even get a glimpse into their kitchens and watch them at work!
Everything you buy here is made with care and the finest local olive oil. You'll find raisins, wine, honey, almonds, walnuts, and fruits from the Livadi Plateau. Of course, the selection also includes traditional treats like the soft "anevato" kalitsouni, anevato pinched cookies, almond pastries, wine cookies, hilopites (handmade pasta), rusks, crispy fried sweets, spoon sweets, pies (fresh or frozen), kok, cakes, and more.
The cooperative members take great pride in their intricate ploumisto koulouri, a true work of art, traditionally gifted to the godparent at a baptism or to the koumbaros at a wedding.
The tip of Local!
The decorative elements carry symbolism—flowers for joy, snakes for longevity, and birds for fertility.
