Marathos Women’s Agricultural Cooperative

In the mountainous village of Marathos, in the Malevizi Municipality, you have the chance to savor exquisite flavors.

In the village square, near the central church and the school, you’ll find the Marathos Women’s Agricultural Cooperative “Xobliasto Koulouraki”, a place where you’ll leave with bags full of delicious treats!

Founded in 2000, the cooperative’s members proudly send their products as far as America. The xobliasto koulouraki (decorated cookie) is essentially a work of art, while their signature product, the koumbarou koulouri (a ceremonial bread), is a source of pride.

You’ll also find seasonal sweets like melomakarouna (honey cookies) and kalitsounia (cheese pastries), as well as Crete’s famous xerotigana (fried dough strips). Don’t miss the almond or orange-chocolate cookies—you’ll be licking your fingers!

Visitors can tour the space and watch the cooperative’s members at work, but make sure to contact them in advance.
