Monastery of Agios Panteleimon in Fodele
ABOUT
The Monastery of Agios Panteleimon was founded in the early years of the Ottoman rule and played an important role in the history of the time. It was established by monks Makarios, Kosmas, and Jeremiah, who came from the old coastal Monastery of Agios Antonios, which had been destroyed by the Ottomans. The three monks were buried inside the church, and their tomb is located at the entrance of the nave of Agios Antonios.
One of the most significant relics preserved in the monastery is a fragment of the Holy Relic of Agios Panteleimon’s hand, kept in a silver case adorned with embossed depictions of the Virgin Mary and the Saint.
In the monastery's courtyard, visitors will find a small "ark"—a space home to a remarkable variety of animals, some of which are rare species!
