Exploring Creta: Hiking through the Meskla Gorge
ABOUT
The Meskla Gorge, located in the picturesque village of Meskla, may be one of the smallest gorges in Crete, but it is without a doubt one of the most impressive natural landscapes on the island.
Hidden within a magical forest of cypresses and plane trees, the gorge offers a serene and idyllic setting that feels like a well-kept secret of nature. Its narrow passages and rugged terrain create a trail with a sense of adventure, giving you the chance to truly experience the raw beauty of Crete’s wilderness.
The circular route through the gorge takes just over two hours, making it a short but thoroughly enjoyable hike. The trail is well-marked, and there are countless opportunities to admire the spectacular scenery — from towering trees and steep cliffs to the dense vegetation that embraces you at every step.
