Pyrgos Psilonerou Beach
ABOUT
Pyrgos Psilonerou is a quiet beach west of Chania, located between Gerani and Maleme.
It stretches for about 1 kilometre and offers clean, deep waters, a mix of grey sand and pebbles.
Even though it's close to tourist facilities, the beach has kept its laid-back, unspoiled character.
It’s not organised, and it’s mainly favoured by locals and families who are after a peaceful spot.
It also holds special significance as a habitat for the loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta), whose nests are visible during the summer.
There’s a lifeguard, a few snack bars, and some umbrellas, enough to provide basic comfort without disturbing the natural landscape.
The area invites exploration, with traditional villages and historical landmarks like the German War Cemetery in Maleme, which highlight the region’s deep cultural and historical roots.
