The Cave of St. John the Hermit (Marathokefala)
ABOUT
The renowned Marathokefala in the village of Spilia is a cave shaped like a horizontal gallery, spanning approximately 135 metres in length and adorned with stalactites and stalagmites.
According to legend, St John the Hermit resided and ultimately found his resting place within this cave, with his remains still preserved there to this day. This location, paired with its breath-taking panoramic vista, instils a profound sense of awe in all who visit.
Gradually exploring the Spilia settlement and meandering through its cobbled streets conceals numerous additional surprises.
