Vatolakkos and its Renowned Clock
ABOUT
Nestled within the municipality of Platanias, Vatolakkos is affectionately referred to as an ‘orange village’. Its village square, adorned with majestic plane trees and charming cafés, rests alongside a gentle stream.
At the heart of the village lies its central church, an exquisite example of 14th-century Basilica architecture. This two-aisled basilica honours the Apostles Peter & Paul, with an annual grand festival held on 28th June in their honour. The second aisle pays homage to Agios Fanourios. Adjacent to the church stands the Vatolakkos Primary School and the village's iconic clock, a poignant tribute to those who perished at the hands of the Nazis during the Occupation, generously donated by a local resident.
Visitors can explore the Fabrica & Olive Museum, adding another layer to the rich tapestry of Vatolakkos's history and culture.
