Anatoli: One of the Most Beautiful and Traditional Villages
ABOUT
Here, time appears to have come to a standstill, with stone-built houses and charming alleyways beckoning visitors to explore.
The village is currently undergoing a restoration programme and has been designated as a traditional settlement.
As per Wikipedia, in the eastern part of the area, apart from Kato Vrisi (which has been designated a listed monument by the Ministry of Culture), numerous archaeological sites, churches, and 15th-century Byzantine monasteries constructed by the scholarly and ascetic monk Nilos Damilas can be found. At the heart of the eastern region is Profitis Ilias.
From Anatoli emerged the renowned figure of Eastern Crete, Pantelis Baritantonakis. In 1993, the Cultural and Naturalist Association of the East was established and remains active, organising numerous events such as the Bean Soup Festival on Clean Monday, ‘kazanemata’ (offering raki), and the honey treats at Panagia tou Vari, reviving an age-old tradition.
