Katerina: A genuine village gem with homemade comfort food
ABOUT
Katerina's taverna may not catch your eye at first glance, nestled as it is along the main road of the village of Ferma, near Ierapetra. But one meal here will change your mind completely.
This is a family-run spot where you’ll discover the true meaning of homemade, comforting food, lovingly prepared by Mrs. Katerina herself. Meanwhile, her son Manolis welcomes guests with a smile, ensuring you feel right at home.
The taverna has indoor seating, but everyone prefers the charming outdoor courtyard. Shaded by olive trees during the day and filled with a cozy atmosphere in the evening, it’s the perfect setting to relax. Occasionally, they even host live music nights, adding a special touch to your dining experience.
The owners are warm and hospitable, treating their guests like family. Be sure to try their homemade xygalo (a creamy, tangy cheese spread), the flavorful stuffed burger, and their delicious myzithropites (cheese pies). At the end of your meal, they’ll treat you to raki and fresh fruit, as is the local tradition.
Before you leave, don’t forget to snap a photo beneath the grand olive tree in the courtyard. Then, head over to the town of Ierapetra for a coffee by the beach—it’s the perfect way to end your visit!
