Koutsouras Grove
ABOUT
Just outside the village of Koutsouras in southeastern Crete, this small, green oasis stands out against the otherwise dry landscape of the area. The Koutsouras Grove, also known as the Aphigania Woodland, is a beloved spot for walks, family outings, and cultural events.
Despite the devastating wildfire of 1993, nature has bounced back. The lush vegetation once again offers shade and coolness. Inside the grove, you’ll find a playground, a refreshment kiosk, and rest areas, making it ideal for a leisurely visit.
Nearby, the striking Gorge of the Red Butterflies begins. There, among shrubs and rocks, the area's iconic red butterflies flutter about, creating a truly magical sight.
The grove, along with the area’s quiet beaches, is a lovely choice for those seeking contact with nature and moments of relaxation.
