This is a spectacular hike that combines historic landmarks, striking natural landscapes, and breathtaking views.
The members of the Heraklion Mountaineering Club describe the route:
“We begin from Kavousi (100m), following an old stone-paved uphill path on the eastern side of the Mesonas Gorge.
We visit the archaeological site of Azorias, and then continue walking on the western side of the gorge, alongside an old stone aqueduct.
Leaving the gorge behind, we pass through abandoned settlements and terraced slopes, reaching just below the Thripti Plateau (950m).
From there, an old stone path leads us back to Kavousi (100m).”
