Filio: A traditional kafenio with home-cooked food at the foot of Psiloritis
ABOUT
In the mid-1970s, seven-year-old Valia made her first coffee for a customer, under the guidance of her grandmother, Filio “Vasilanaina,” standing on a stool to reach.
Fast forward to early 2017, and you’ll still find Valia, now with her husband Giorgos, running the same café in the village square.
Here, at the foot of Psiloritis, close to Ancient Eleftherna and its splendid museum, you can enjoy a morning coffee, a traditional home-cooked meal at midday, and in the evening, a selection of meze paired with raki.
Giorgos and Valia, the fourth generation to keep this café alive, will greet you with warmth and hospitality in a well-tended spot full of color, love, and a passion for good food.
Over the more than a century that Café “Filio” has stood in this same place, notable figures from the arts and politics have come by to enjoy its delicious food.
When you visit, you’ll find more than 40 small dishes to sample. Don’t miss the snails with cracked wheat or the rooster with pasta!
