The Psiloritis Geopark

From an administrative standpoint, the Psiloritis Geopark is divided between the prefectures of Heraklion and Rethymno.

The Psiloritis Geopark was established in 2001 as an informal Natural Park by Psiloritis Development SA, and received scientific support from the Natural History Museum of the University of Crete.

Thanks to its diverse geological features, breath-taking scenery, and rich historical and cultural heritage, the Psiloritis Natural Park was incorporated into the European Geoparks Network shortly after its establishment. It later became part of the Global Geoparks Network, solidifying its worldwide recognition and status.
