Vistagi Folklore Museum
ABOUT
How about a journey back in time? Would you like to discover how Cretans lived in past decades?
In the central square of Vistagi, right next to the Church of Saint George, you’ll find the Folklore Museum, housed in the village’s old school building.
This fascinating collection has been curated by the active Vistagi Cultural Association, with exhibits donated by the villagers. Among the artifacts, you’ll find traditional farming tools, furniture, household items from rural homes, traditional clothing, and even a handloom.
Interestingly, in the 1960s, this very building served as a canteen for local schoolchildren, who by then attended the new school of Vistagi. The state provided the ingredients, while each student’s family took turns cooking and supplying firewood for the meals.
📍 A journey into tradition that’s worth experiencing!
