Souda: The Seaport of Chania City

Souda has transformed into a suburb of the city of Chania in recent years, despite its small-town origins.

Constructed in 1870, it was built on an area that was once a swamp.

The port of Souda, now serving as Chania's primary commercial and passenger port, is the driving force behind its rapid development.

Souda Bay hosts significant military installations, including the Greek Navy's Crete Naval Station and NATO's Souda Base, which also caters to the United States armed forces.
