Perivolia: A Stop at Heroes’ Square

Perivolia is a tiny village right next to the city of Chania, yet it holds many hidden gems for visitors.

Situated on the scenic route leading to the historic village of Theriso, it is part of a truly atmospheric journey through nature and history.

A stop at Heroes’ Square is a must. This lush green square stands as a tribute to the memory of 33 civilians executed by the Germans in 1941. It’s a place of remembrance, but also a great spot to take in the surroundings.

Around the square, you’ll find tavernas, cafés, accommodations, a primary school, and a municipal stadium—everything a visitor might need.

Another interesting stop is the archaeological site of Boutsounaria, located in Garipa, the last neighborhood of Perivolia before entering the Theriso Gorge.

A small village, but full of history, nature, and local charm.
