Mount Kartalos
ABOUT
Crete is famous for its majestic mountains, and many of its peaks are home to charming chapels.
The same is true for Mount Kartalos, which rises in the southern part of the Amari Valley, near Psiloritis, about 6 km from the village of Platanos.
Hikers will be captivated by the rugged geological formations, but the true highlight is the small chapel of the Holy Cross, perched at the 716m summit.
The path to the chapel is a well-marked mountain trail, ideal for a scenic hike. From the top, you’ll enjoy stunning views of Psiloritis, the Mesara Plain, and the Libyan Sea!
