Holy Church of Saint Anthony (Veni)
ABOUT
Perched above the village of Voliones, in the Amari Municipality, on the eastern side of Veni Hill, lies the cave church of Saint Anthony—once a dependence of Arkadi Monastery.
Scattered around the church are the ruins of monastic cells, evidence of a monastic presence in earlier times.
You can reach the site via a dirt and concrete road starting from Voliones or take a scenic footpath that winds through lush greenery and offers breathtaking views.
Inside the church, which is carved into the rock, there is an ossuary containing the skulls of monks. The earliest known written reference to the site appears in a Venetian notarial document from 1627.
