Manoura Bridge
ABOUT
One of the most beautiful landmarks in the Amari region is the Manoura Arch.
This is a stone bridge with four arches, each with different spans. The design and construction of the arches closely resemble the stone bridges of Epirus. Due to a lack of documented references, its exact construction date remains uncertain.
According to Konstantinos Manouras, the bridge is believed to have been built during the final years of the Egyptian occupation of Crete (1828–1841). The driving force behind its construction was Merousta, the owner of the Faneromeni Kamara estate, after whom the bridge was originally named "Omerousta" until the early 20th century.
Since 1902, the bridge has been known as Manoura Bridge, as has the modern reinforced concrete bridge, built between 1950 and 1952 on land provided by the Manouras family to preserve the original stone structure from demolition.
