Centre of Mediterranean Architecture
ABOUT
The Mediterranean Architecture Centre resides in Katehaki Square in the historic port of Chania.
The 'Great Arsenal' was completed in 1600, originally without an upper level, but it acquired one in 1872 during the late Ottoman period, marking a new era.
The building has accommodated various public services, serving as the school for the Christian community in 1992 and also hosting theatrical performances.
In 1923, it was utilised as a hospital, and from 1928 to 1941, it functioned as the town hall.
Presently, it has been reimagined into an impressive venue for events and exhibitions, operating as an architectural centre that hosts various events.
It hosts a range of events including film screenings, operas, theatrical performances, conferences, workshops, and visual arts exhibitions.
