Garazo: One of Crete's Fertile Villages
ABOUT
Garazo is situated at an elevation of 270 metres, to the south of Kouloukonas. Its fortified location offered protection to the leaders of the Cretan Revolutions, who frequently convened there to deliberate on crucial matters.
The Vosakos Monastery possessed a substantial estate and extensive property in the area. This property was situated either in the vicinity of the old Agia Kyriaki Church, which was demolished in 1970 to make way for the present one, or around the Assumption Church, also situated within the village.
It is a fertile village, ranking first in citrus production in the Mylopotamos region.
Indeed, the Kitron Festival held every summer enjoys great success.
