Chandras: Unveiling the Ottoman Hammam and More
ABOUT
In the heart of the village of Chandras, you'll find remnants of an Ottoman hammam, a Renaissance fountain, and buildings with Venetian influences, showcasing the area’s rich cultural history. The village also boasts a small folklore museum that offers a glimpse into traditional Cretan life.
Chandras is famous for its beautiful orchards and its unique windmills with white sails, similar to those used for water pumping on the Lasithi Plateau. Here, these windmills are still in use today, pumping water for the vineyards and fields that surround the village.Stroll through the village’s charming streets, where you can admire gardens filled with apple, pear, and walnut trees. Take a break at one of the local cafés, where the warm-hearted villagers will ask you where you're from and likely treat you to a glass of traditional raki (tsikoudia)!
