ABOUT
The hike into the Chochlakies Gorge begins with a drive through the village of Chochlakies, followed by a narrow path leading to the Church of Agia Marina. This is an ideal spot for parking and the starting point of your adventure.
The trail is relatively easy but is best undertaken after April when the water flow in the riverbed subsides. The route is particularly charming, thanks to its rich flora and striking geological formations.
This UNESCO-mapped geotrail takes approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes. It starts just outside the Chochlakies settlement, marked by blue signs, and leads to the stunning Karoumes Beach, passing through the breathtaking gorge.
The return is typically a circular route through the gorge, bringing you back to the starting point. For the more adventurous, the hike can be extended towards Kato Zakros via UNESCO’s Geotrail 12.
