Vreiko Cave

Caves

ABOUT

Vreiko Cave (officially known as Latsida Vreikou Cave) is located northeast of the village of Pefki, in a striking limestone landscape, formed on the Tripolis limestone formation. These limestones, forming a tectonic cover, lie above the Phyllites–Quartzites s.l. unit.

The cave develops almost vertically within the limestone, piercing through its full depth until it reaches the underlying impermeable Phyllites–Quartzites layer, which halts the water’s descent.

Inside, you'll find a beautiful array of stalactites and stalagmites, and the site is also designated as a terrestrial archaeological site, since traces of Neolithic habitation were discovered here.

Access to the entrance is via a trail with breathtaking views, and fixed gear is installed inside to assist visitors. However, entry into the cave is not recommended unless you are experienced or familiar with caving techniques. In all cases, a helmet and headlamp are essential.
