Chambathoura & Leska Caves

ABOUT

They may not be twin caves, but they are very close to each other.

Located on the steep slopes of Psiloritis, above Fourfouras, Leska Cave (1,390m) and Chambathoura Cave (1,460m) stand as intriguing natural formations.

Leska Cave

Leska is quite hard to access, as it is formed on a cliff, yet it is fascinating due to its interior rock formations and multiple chambers. In the past, these chambers were used by cheesemakers as aging rooms for cheese.

Exploring Leska requires basic caving equipment, experience, and no fear of heights, as reaching the entrance can be challenging.

Chambathoura Cave

A smaller cave with a single main chamber, Chambathoura was adapted for cheesemaking, with a small mitato (shepherd’s hut) built above it, allowing for immediate use as a cheese-aging space.
