Adventure & Action

On Sunday, February 9, 2025, the Mountaineering Club of Heraklion (EOS Heraklion) will embark on a hike through the municipality of Hersonissos, specifically in the areas of Stalida, Mochos, and Malia.

EOS Heraklion members describe the route as follows:
*"We begin our hike from Stalida, ascending along an old path known as the 'Bulgarian Path.' This trail got its name from the Bulgarian prisoners of World War I who were brought to Crete and forced to rebuild the old route that connected Stalida with Mochos.

We reach the beautiful traditional village of Mochos (400m), making a short stop along the way at the Axion Esti Monastery.

After enjoying a coffee or a stroll through the village’s narrow streets and main square, we continue uphill to a mountain pass in the direction of Malia, before descending via a well-preserved old path, which is mostly cobbled (kalderimi). Our journey concludes near Malia.

Throughout the hike, we will enjoy breathtaking views of the northern coastline and the Cretan Sea."*
