ABOUT
The Lasithi Plateau is surrounded by the rugged and towering Dikti Mountains, along with several smaller plateaus. One of these is the Limnakaro Plateau, located 5 km from Lasithi Plateau. The famous E4 trail passes through here, crossing Lasithi and continuing towards the Selakano Plateau.
At an altitude of 1,120 meters, the path begins to climb through a dry streambed. Following the E4 markers, after about an hour of hiking, you’ll reach a plateau and meet the trail that leads to the EOS Lasithi mountain refuge, Strovilis, situated at 1,533 meters.
In the summer months, this ascent can be shorter by simply following the E4 markers, making it a bit easier to navigate. The full hike to the top takes around 3-4 hours, with the highest peak being Spathi, standing at 2,148 meters. From the summit, you are rewarded with panoramic views of nearby peaks like Lazaros (2,085 meters) and Afentis (2,141 meters). You can also see the entire Lasithi Plateau, as well as the Katharo Plateau, stretched out below.
For the descent, you retrace your steps back down the same path.
The tip of Local!
In winter, when the mountains are snow-covered, only experienced mountaineers should attempt the climb.
