Strovilis Mountain Refuge

ABOUT

Located on the eastern side of the Lasithi Plateau, above both the Lasithi and Limnakaro Plateaus, it sits at an elevation of 1,358 meters in the Anastasis area of the Strovilis summit. The refuge was built in 1992, an initiative by EOS Lasithiou, on land donated by the community of Avrakonte, Lasithi.

Reaching the refuge involves a 2-hour hike from Agios Georgios of Lasithi Plateau, following the E4 trail to the Limnakaro Plateau and continuing on a footpath. Alternatively, it can also be accessed via an 8-kilometer dirt road. The area offers plenty of opportunities for excursions to surrounding peaks along the scenic paths of the E4 trail. The refuge can serve as a base for hikes to the peaks of Spathi, Afentis, Psari Madara, and for traversing the beautiful Selakano forest via the E4 trail. It is also a hub for a range of mountain activities, including hiking, climbing, and ski mountaineering.
