Tsoulis' Grave

ABOUT

At a panoramic spot known as Lakkos of Chortasa, right on a bend of the dirt road, visitors can explore the famous grave of Tsoulis. From here, one can also follow the ancient Minoan path that once connected Dictaeon Andron with ancient Lyttos.

This large pile of stones with a stone column marks the execution site of Tsoulis Aga, a notorious Janissary who terrorised Lasithi and the Pediada region. Locals eventually found and executed him, burying him at this very spot. As a form of curse, every passer-by would throw a stone on the grave—a tradition that created the cairn.

Beyond its dark tale, the site also offers a stunning view towards the Aposelemis area and the villages near the dam.
