Adventure & Action

On Sunday, February 23, the Mountaineering Club of Agios Nikolaos, in collaboration with the Cultural Association of Kavousi and the "Kavousi Mountain Runners," is organizing a circular hike of natural and cultural interest around Kavousi.

"The hike will start at 9:30 AM from the Kavousi Cultural Center. We will ascend via the old cobbled path next to the Havgas Gorge and continue on a dirt road to reach Agia Irini, one of the oldest Byzantine chapels in the area, and then the church of Panagia tou Avgou. From there, following a trail with stunning views, we will reach the small plateau of ‘Limnia’ on the foothills of Spathi. The descent will take us through footpaths and dirt roads, passing by the abandoned settlements of Trapeza, Melisses, and Somata, the Monastery of Agio Pnevma, the exit of the Mesonas Gorge, the archaeological site of Azoria, and the ancient Minoan olive tree of Kavousi, before returning to our starting point. To wrap up the day, the hospitable Kavousi Cultural Association will welcome us with a small treat— a perfect way to reflect on all we’ve seen!", describe the organizers.
