The Chair of Gavdos
ABOUT
This is the island’s trademark—possibly one of the most photographed spots in Crete.
The chair at Trypiti beach, located at the southernmost tip of Europe, was placed there by a group of Russians who left their country in the 1980s following the Chernobyl disaster.
Perched on a 2.5-metre-high rock, it invites you to relax and smile.
In 2024, the Municipality of Gavdos undertook restoration work to reinforce the structure, clean it, and repair wear and tear, so that the legendary chair remains safe and accessible to visitors.
