Kastrí: The Capital of Gavdos!

Kastrí is the capital of Gavdos, home to the municipality offices and the island’s rural medical clinic.
The primary school lies at the junction to Vatsianá and Ámpelo. The village still has old traditional houses, as well as newer ones and some guest rooms for rent.

Thanks to the growing interest in the island, students and researchers visit every year for various archaeological and environmental studies.
Kastrí is the village with the most developed infrastructure on the island.

From here, you can set off on almost every trail, either by car or on foot through easy, shaded paths lined with pine trees, offering respite from the summer sun.
There’s also a small bakery in the village, where beyond bread, you’ll find traditional local delicacies and sweets.
