Pano Episkopi: Newly Established Village with Sparse Population

ABOUT

Nestled on a lush hillside, one encounters the charming and sparsely populated village of Pano Episkopi within the Sitia Municipality.

Situated at an elevation of 270 metres, visitors have the chance to enjoy breath-taking vistas.

Pano Episkopi also served as the seat of the Latin Bishop of Sitia.

The village is distinguished by the presence of the historic three-aisled Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, adorned with the emblem of the Latin Bishop Gaspar Viviarius.

At Trypitos, an outpost - fortress of the classical and Hellenistic times was excavated, which apparently belonged to the powerful neighbouring ancient city of Praisos.
