Museum of Typography in Chania: A Cultural Hub and Literary Haven
ABOUT
The museum was established by Yiannis Garedakis, who was supported by his devoted wife Eleni in this endeavour. It is situated just before the city's entrance, within the Souda Industrial Park, covering an area of 1,200 square metres.
The museum was officially inaugurated in 2005, and in 2012, a new wing was added to expand its facilities. Celebrating its 10th
anniversary in 2015, it unveiled yet another hall housing rare publications, engravings, woodcuts, and more. Since 2012, the Museum has been a member of the Association of European Printing Museums. In 2016, it received a nomination for the prestigious European Museum of the Year 2016 award (EMYA 2016). This unique museum offers an interactive tour, narrating the fascinating history of Typography. Visitors have the extraordinary opportunity to experience hands-on printing on old presses and discover the often-overlooked human effort and intelligence that underlie every printed text.
