Lotzia: Heraklion's Town Hall
ABOUT
In each city under Venetian rule, there was a public building where nobles and aristocrats gathered to spend their leisure time discussing various topics that concerned the city, such as economics, trade, and politics.
Lotzia of Candia is considered one of the most elegant architectural monuments of the Venetian period. The building that survives today is the fourth clubhouse of the city and was constructed around 1628 by the general superintendent Francesco Morosini.
It is situated at the heart of the historical centre of Heraklion city, on Kallergon Square, along 25th August Martyrs Street, in the Venetian district of Rouga Maistra. Following a meticulous renovation that commenced in 1962, it now serves as the City Hall.
The building is so stunning that people from all over the world choose it for their civil weddings.
