Kafeneio Alevras: For Meze, Head to Pateles!

Pateles is a quiet suburb of Heraklion, less than 10 minutes from the city centre. Tucked away on one of its streets, you'll find Kafeneio Alevras, a spot that’s all about good food.

Despite its name, this is no ordinary café—it doesn’t serve coffee, only exceptional meze, usually from 1 p.m. onwards. Locals rave about the juicy keftedes (meatballs) and the potato omelette, a deceptively simple dish that takes real skill to perfect.

Every day, Mrs Ioanna cooks something different, and regulars often call ahead to let her know they're on their way! There’s no menu, just whatever’s fresh and delicious that day. With only six tables, the place is small but perfect for those who appreciate great food and a cosy atmosphere.
