Kontomari: A Heroic Village with a Path of Development

Historically, the village has been designated as martyr, as it witnessed the first mass execution of civilians during World War II in Europe by the Nazis.

At the village center stands the Monument of the Fallen, serving as a reminder to visitors of the execution of the male villagers by the German Nazis. In 2023, the first Memory Days Festival was dedicated to the executed, while an educational program is being implemented where school classes experientially discover the village's history.

Members of the village's cultural association are striving to convert the warehouse of the agricultural cooperative into a multifunctional activity space.
