Kerasia: A Village of Generous Hospitality

ABOUT

The hospitality of Kerasia village's inhabitants is well-known, and it's said that a visitor can't depart without receiving a kind gesture from a local.

The village is perched on the eastern slopes of the Chalepa Hill, offering splendid vistas of the Kerasia plain, the Lassithi mountains, the historic Paliani Monastery, and the Kastella Hill, which is crowned by the chapel of Agios Panteleimonas.

A structure of significant historical value is the meticulously restored former Primary School building. Within its courtyard, there is the tomb of Captain Charalambos Vlachakis, who played a pivotal role in resisting the Ottomans.

The Kerasia Gorge stretches north of the village and is traversed by the Diakoniaris River (torrent).

The village hosts a local festival on 30th July to celebrate the feast of St Silas.
