Holy Monastery of Panagia Vriomeni
ABOUT
The monastery of Panagia Vriomeni, situated just outside the settlement of Meseleri, is, undoubtedly, not only the most important attraction of the village, but also one of the most significant monuments of the whole of Crete.
Built probably in the 14th century, it is surrounded by a green landscape with abundant running water and a spring located just below the monastery, from which the people of Meseleri have constantly been supplied with water since ancient times. It is said that the very first meeting of the chieftains of Eastern Crete was held here, and the first military actions during the Revolution of 1821 were also coordinated here.
