Grylios Museum

ABOUT

In the mountainous village of Anogeia, a hidden gem on the map of Crete, art enthusiasts will find a special place to explore. The Grylios Museum offers a chance to delve into the life and work of a remarkable local figure.

Alkiviadis Skoulas, affectionately known as Grylios, was a self-taught folk artist who began painting and carving stone and wood late in life. Like many folk artists, his creations draw deeply from the cultural and natural environment of his homeland. Despite starting his artistic journey later in life, he produced an impressive body of work within just a few years.

Today, many of his pieces are on display at the small Grylios Museum, which he himself established next to his home in the Perachori area. This museum serves as a testament to his artistic legacy and the spirit of Anogeia.

Currently, the museum is undergoing renovations to enhance its facilities, ensuring that visitors can continue to enjoy its treasures for years to come.
