Georgiadis Park
ABOUT
Georgiadis Park is situated a short distance from Eleftherias Square, opposite the statue of Eleftherios Venizelos, and is known for being one of the city's largest green spaces. It's a delightful and refreshing retreat from the noise of the city centre, particularly during the summer.
The park has a cafe-bar, a playground, washroom facilities, and a small herb garden at the entrance. Moreover, it serves as a venue for various cultural events and festivals during the summer.
Georgiadis
At the park entrance stands the statue of Minas Georgiadis, the Mayor of Heraklion in 1934, who was arrested for his resistance activities during the occupation, imprisoned, and later executed in Gazi (June 2, 1942) along with the 62 Martyrs.
