Asteri: A Village of History and Luxury
ABOUT
Asteri is a picturesque village in Crete, perched at an altitude of 80 meters. Steeped in history, it was the site of one of the first mass executions on the island during the German occupation. In a brutal act of reprisal, the Germans executed 14 villagers and burned the settlement, leaving scars that still mark its past.
Today, Asteri has been transformed, hosting luxury villas that blend seamlessly with its rich heritage, offering a unique mix of historical charm and modern comfort. The village's Venetian influences from the 16th century, traditional churches, and distinct architecture make it a place of deep cultural significance.
Although its population has dwindled, Asteri remains a place of memory and beauty, attracting visitors eager to immerse themselves in its history and unique allure.
